What is General Dentistry?

What is a Night Guard?
A night guard should help protect your teeth from the effects of teeth grinding (bruxism) and Jaw Muscle Dysfunction (TMD). If you are experiencing a sore jaw, headaches or tooth sensitivity after sleep, ask your dentist if a night guard is right for you.
Custom night guards can help prevent future dental problems and protect your teeth and jaw from any damage while you sleep. If you grind your teeth, your night guard will act as a barrier to help protect your teeth from damaging each other. If you suffer from jaw joint pain, your night guard will help you reduce clenching, and may give you some pain relief.

What is a Registered Dental Hygienist?
Dental Hygienists are key health care providers in providing the public with their expertise in preventative dental health care and health promotion.
What are the educational requirements for an independent dental hygienist in Ontario?
In order to practice in Ontario, a Dental Hygienist must complete and obtain a Diploma from a recognized dental hygiene program from a college or university. Once the program is completed, every dental hygiene graduate must then pass the National Dental Hygiene Board exam and become registered with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO). Dental hygienists who operate their own dental hygiene practice must apply and receive special authorization to become self-initiated from the CDHO.
Is there a professional body that regulates dental hygienists in Ontario?
Yes. In Ontario, the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario registers dental hygienists. They ensure that all registrants are performing competent, safe, and ethical dental hygiene care for the public.
Are dental hygienists trained as well as dentists in cleaning teeth?
Scaling, root planning, and curettage is a specialized procedure for which dental hygienists undergo and receive throughout training. Dental hygienists play a vital role as your primary oral healthcare provider.

Poor oral health has been linked to diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. These are the main reasons why dental hygiene care and visiting your dental hygienist regularly is IMPORTANT!
Should I still see a dentist after visiting my dental hygienist?
As dental hygienists, our main goal for all our clients is PREVENTION, more so than the cure. Dental hygiene assessments are done at every appointment to ensure there are no areas of concern. If we notice a suspicious area, which is out of our scope of practice, we will discuss this matter with you and appropriate referrals will be made. Looking out for your dental wellbeing is our primary goal!
Will my dental insurance cover me should I require dental hygiene services?
YES! Manulife, Sunlife , and Great West Life are some of many insurance companies that accept dental hygiene service fees. We would be happy to contact your insurance provider to determine what services are covered. Please be aware that some insurance companies will not disclose information unless they are speaking directly to the insured, due to the Privacy Act .
How much will it cost me to receive dental hygiene services?
All treatments are client specific resulting in different subtotal costs. We only charge by ODHA fees and these fees are already set less than the dentist fee guide.

What is a “New Client Dental Hygiene Assessment” and why is it important?
The assessment aspect to your appointment is when your dental hygienist evaluates and gathers information needed to customize a treatment plan designed for your specific oral health needs. This is completed at your first initial appointment with a follow up dental hygiene assessment at each subsequent appointment.

Are children welcome at The Meticulous Smile?
Absolutely! We love the laughter and smiles o the little ones, so bring them by! We start chair ride visits for children from the age of one year and up!
What services are provided for children?
In addition to oral-self care education and dental cleanings, sealants may be placed of required teeth to help prevent tooth decay from forming on the chewing surfaces off the teeth. We also offer custom fitted sports guard for children who play sports.
